Over 200 astronauts have stepped into the vacuum of space. Here is a brief history of one of those courageous spacewalkers.
Today marks Peggy Whitson’s birthday. Whitson is the first female Space Station Commander and has a doctorate in biochemistry. In June 2017, Withson broke the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman.
She has won numerous awards and honours along the way. Just to name a few:
- NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal in 2016
- NASA Space Flight Medal in 2002
- NASA Tech Brief Award in 1995
- Krug International Merit Award in 1989
How incredible to even be an astronaut, let alone a space station commander, let alone the first female space station commander! What an inspiration to everyone.
I love hearing from you!
